Make sure you are staining an appropriate kind of wood. some woods will work better than others. you don’t want to go to the trouble of making a stain only to discover that it won’t stain. wood with bifurcated grains is best, particularly where the wood grain is layered in hard/soft layers, so the soft layers are affected by the process but the hard layers are not, causing the wood to look. If the color of the wood is dark and you are a using light color to distress, you might apply two or three coats of paint to bring the natural color effect. add vinegar in dash of water. never go straight to vinegar, add a dash of water and make it a mixture. you can use any vinegar type (synthetic and apple cider) for this purpose.. Using a paintbrush, foam brush, rags or old t-shirts, paint the wood you’re using with the colorant jar with the tea/coffee/wine mixture. make sure to get all sides and not miss any spots as they will be very noticeable on the finished product. i haven’t tried it, but next time i plan to use a spray bottle to spray the wood for better coverage..
