The other 50% is reserved for my hand woodworking, but is shared with hand tool storage. i’m thinking about building a 6ft and a 4ft sellers bench from 10ft lumber, move the metal vice, drill press and scroll saw to the 4ft bench and have the entire 6ft bench for my fun stuff.. The bench should be at least 51 inches wide if you plan on having two people sit on the bench, but it can be 60 inches or more. some outdoor benches provide continuous seating, such as benches surrounding a fire pit or connected to the inside of a deck railing, proving that the width is limited only by your imagination -- and the space. The first step of actually building the workbench is to cut to length the lumber for the base. the original design used a base that was 24" wide and 48" long. to go larger than that you need a second sheet of mdf. i ended up building mine 23x48". the original design had a height of 35-1/8"..

Wood moves, but obsessing about it while designing the bench wastes more energy than dealing with it after the bench is built. your bench will go out of flat. when it becomes a problem, you can fix it in less than 45 minutes of work. and, in general, your bench only has to be super-flat along the front 12” of the length of the benchtop.. Skogsta bench, acacia, length: 23 5/8". solid wood is a durable natural material which can be sanded and surface treated when required. acacia has a rich brown color and distinctive grain pattern..
